3 Reasons to Do Your Session During Golden Hour | KEY TIPS to Make the Most of Your Golden Hour Session | Fort Washington, PA Portrait & Branding Photographer

traci A delisser May 22, 2019

You may hear Photographers recommend shooting during Golden Hour and wonder why. It is the hour (or 2) after sunrise and after sunset when the sun is low in the sky and a result, the shadows and light are softer.

If you want a portrait session in a scenic outdoor location, it is worth waking up early or putting the kids to bed later in order to capture the portraits because:-

Gorgeous Warm Light

You will glow as the light is warm and soft. No squinting when sometimes happen when the sun is high in the sky and no ugly shadows under the eyes.

Less People

Especially for popular locations, getting there early means less crowds to navigate. Also a great opportunity to stop and witness a great sunrise or sunset.

KEY TIPS to Make the Most of Your Golden Hour Session :-

  • Be on time and follow your photographer’s instructions. The light changes rapidly and starting a shoot late can result in little or no light for portraits.

  • Stay after sunset! There will still be enough light to get amazing blue hour (the hour after sunset) images, like the one below.
